Big day today...big! I was waiting as patiently as possible and it finally happened. Madeline rolled over from back to front. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but I will explain why it is. Picture it: you hear a muffled scream in the middle of the night and wake up to find your baby has rolled onto her tummy with no means of getting back. You gently roll her over. Repeat this scenario hundreds of times. It starts to wear on the patience after awhile. Madeline gets into this crazy pattern where she only rolls over when she is tired, but once she starts, she isn't able to stop. She becomes totally frustrated and the only relief is for me to just pick her up and put her in her crib. Then I cross my fingers that she won't roll over in her crib. The best way to prevent it is to wedge her into the lower right hand corner of the crib.
Let me back up for a minute. Here is how the whole thing went down. I was getting ready this morning. I had already showered and was trying to dry my hair and get dressed. I put Madeline in between the action, right smack in the center of the hallway on a blanket. She rolled onto her stomach. I know that she is always supposed to be supervised on her stomach, so I did give it a second thought when I ran to the bedroom to grab my shirt, but I figured I was right there and I could run and flip her if I needed to. Not to mention that she can really hold up her head for a good while. I was gone about 20 seconds and when I came back she was smiling at me. Only now she was flat on her back. I squealled and congratulated her and sang her songs as she beamed from ear to ear. It will probably take a couple of days to perfect the action, but we are on our way!
(This was not a picture of that actual episode-- just an example.)
